Wilson, alongside his wife Ciara, co-founded the Why Not You Foundation with a mission to inspire young people to dream big and pursue their goals.
“Ciara and I founded the Why Not You Foundation to inspire the next generation to follow their dreams to become anything they want to be,” said Wilson. “Youth Athlete of the Year is about celebrating their drive, their discipline, and their belief that anything is possible. We’re proud to be part of a competition that inspires and supports causes that matter.”
How the Competition Works
Parents and guardians have already registered their athletes. Now, friends, family, and fans can cast free daily votes or make donation-based votes to help their favorite athlete advance in this tournament-style online competition.
Proceeds from donation-based votes will benefit two nonprofit partners:
-
The V Foundation for Cancer Research – Founded by ESPN and legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano, the foundation has invested nearly $400 million in cutting-edge cancer research.
-
The Why Not You Foundation – Established by Russell Wilson and Ciara, this nonprofit fights poverty through education and health initiatives, encouraging youth to adopt a bold “Why Not You?” mindset.
Voting is open now at athleteoftheyear.org.

In addition to the grand prize, participants will gain access to mentorship and motivational resources from a lineup of world-class athletes and leaders, including:
