Meet Angela Hawkins, founder and CEO of Bamblu®, a Black-owned line of allergy-friendly linen and sleepwear products that are made from organic and mechanically processed bamboo textiles. She was inspired to create this brand after watching her husband suffer for years from insomnia, night sweats, and severe allergies to different bedding fabrics.
Angela, who is a former corporate executive, is now a successful entrepreneur who was recognized as a Forbes Next 1000 honoree in 2021. Prior to launching her brand, she says that she spent thousands on fancy mattresses and expensive, high-thread-count sheets that offered little to no relief. However, her research led her to a little-known bamboo-based fabric.
She learned that almost 30% of adults have some trouble falling asleep at night and nearly 70% of adults struggle as often as once a week with this chronic sleep concern.
Immediately upon switching to the bamboo bedding, her husband’s quality of sleep improved, and he almost immediately began to feel less stressed, more productive, and he enjoyed better concentration throughout his day. The result was a total lifestyle makeover. From that moment forward, she committed to sharing her life-changing experience and this amazing product with others, and Bamblu® (originally called Le Creatif Linen) was born.
When asked about the motivation behind her company’s brand, Hawkins says, “When most of us think about our health-related goals, we tend to focus on eating better or losing weight.
